Earning My Allowance - 3WW

Thom writes:
Each week, I post three words. You write something using the words.

Then come back and post a link to the contribution with Mr. Linky (but please, link to the exact post, not your blog, by clicking on the exact post title and paste it to Mr. Linky below). As always, there's no hard-and-fast rule that you have to post on Wednesday.

This week's words:

Absolute; Fall; Nestle

Shell cordovan (or cordovan) is a type of leather commonly used in shoemaking. Cordovan is an equine leather made from the fibrous flat muscle (or shell) beneath the hide on the rump of the horse. The leather derives its name from the city of Cordoba, Spain, where it was originally prepared by the Moors.

Earning My Allowance

My chores included
shining my Dad's cordovan
shoes among others.
Absolute pleasure,
that leather - I would fall into
its horsey scented
sheen and nestle there,
in the feel and shape of his
football player feet.

  2. the scent of leathers....I too shined my dad's shoes, but I didn't know what cordovan was, so not so sure on that.....but I loved doing it, for the reasons jaerose mentioned.....I love posts that trigger wonderful memories...

  3. Jae, it was both. The shoes were stand out among perhaps six pairs. He was my step dad, a good man if a little stiff, aiming at being a better man by his own lights. I am told I proposed to him before he proposed to my mom when I was five.

He married a beautiful and stand out scholar and actress, a single mother divorced twice already, an instructor at Cal Berkeley, and she married an adequate student, a former marine returned from the Pacific war who was a football hero, a celebrated center and linebacker on the Cal Berkeley Rose Bowl team of 1949 and 1950. Though they lost the bowl games both times after their perfect seasons of 1948 and 1949, he almost turned pro and others on the team did, the most famous being Jackie Jensen who had a long career as an outfielder for the Boston Red Sox.

    1. That you asked first must surely be the measure of the man..a little stiffness can be ok when the shoes are fine ones to fill..

    2. Thank you jae. He was a good man though his stiffness was also strong and fixed attitudes. He lost his career over them because he couldn't be political. He married fairly well his second marriage and he had a daughter with her. His wife and he remained married the rest of his life and she had sufficient money so when he couldn't find another job in his career, he just stopped working.

  5. I now have two repeat robots, one which hits one site over and over and another which says almost the same thing on different sites inviting me to visit commercial blogs that may or may not be real. This happens several times a day with the first robot, and so far once a day with the second. All of this goes away if I use word verification.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
