Ulysses Bound

John William Waterhouse, Ulysses and the Sirens, 1891, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne

In the original Greek, Ulysses is named Odysseus, and hence Homer's work about him is named The Odyssey

Ulysses Bound

Passing the siren
rocks in the fog of present
circumstance and strapped
to the white white spar
replacing the mast broken
by last spring's torrent,
I call out, respond
to your naked misty shape,
take the leather stripes.
