The Bachelor's Musing

Medium: Photoshop, Painter
About this Image: A painting created for the sci-fi channel miniseries "The Infinite Oz"

"Grace must find expression in life, otherwise it is not grace." - Karl Barth

"One's first step in wisdom is to question everything - and one's last is to come to terms with everything." - Georg C. Lichtenberg

"Take it easy -- but take it". - Woody Guthrie

"Don't follow any advice, no matter how good, until you feel as deeply in your spirit as you think in your mind that the counsel is wise." - Joan Rivers

Funny how some things connect. This particular musing came up in a different kind of context just yesterday. I wrote this poem as noted, September a year ago. I must be on the path in some deep way. Just yesterday without peeking at what I would be posting next, I was joking about my fate as a single man.

By the way, I state in the poem the cat died, but she didn't. She had been rescued and was living unknown to me across the street, an arrangement that went into the winter, but then she came back home last spring to die for real.

The Bachelor's Musing

There's no one to blame
since I live alone (the cat
died) and so dirty
dishes and floors stay
that way unless I do them.

I think to hunt down
a woman then think
again. While I like the love,
I don't like the chores.

  1. I showed this to my wife. She was amused. The poem is great. Ten years or so ago, the poem fit where I was at very well. Thank you

  2. Ha! A does follow B somehow, doesn't it?

There is luxury in sleeping alone on the couch. Just last winter I went to sleep in my clothing and pop, sun up, erin off the couch, and hey, I was already dressed for a new day. I think very fondly on these times.

  3. one more try.

ahhh i'll think about it you guys.
    I am thinking about it.
    Is it really that good?

  4. Erin, I am sleeping on the couch all the time but this is because of needing but not getting a hospital bed to lift my legs up and my head both. I can make this happen using the arm of the couch plus another leg pillow thingy I have. Also the better TV is in the living room.

Jozien, actually, yes. But it's a trade off. I like being alone better, but I am a better human being when I am in company. So the question is do I want to feel better or actually do better. I do well enough alone that I am not chasing women just to have one.

  5. How nice...that markers indicate you must be on the path. I wonder...when will my signs appear. Til then, I wander in circles. Just a little dizzy. Hungry too.

  6. Annie, I hope for you that what you wish for is wise and in your path. I hope for you that your world is benign and supportive. I hope for you that what comes will please you and lift you up into the light.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
