Running Away

Just how true is this?

Running Away

I can't live like this,
like my dreams demand of me.
I duck down alleys
damp with who knows what
but shiny slick with it all
and watch my footing
lest I fall and smear
myself with effluvia,
just to get away.

"Breathe in, breathe out. Oxygen is carcinogenic and likely puts a limit on our life span. It would be unwise though, to try to extend life by not breathing at all.
Which of us doesn't do it? Either we loll in anaerobic stupor, too afraid to fill our lungs with risky beauty, or we roll out fire like dragons, destroying the world we love.

I try not to burn up my world with rage. It is so hard."
- Jeanette Winterson

  1. i can relate to rage.... sometimes i care so much it seems like the only response, and then i need to dig in and care some more.
    thanks for this post.

  2. Love the Winterson quote. In fact I've long admired her, but I have a terrible confession to make: when that photo of her appeared in my inbox I thought for a moment it was Barry Manilow.

Do you know partly I think your posts are difficult to comment on because they contain too much good matter; chatty banalities and pretty photos are much easier to chuck a glib word or two at...

  3. I see the Manilow feel. I too felt there is something masculine in her.

Thank you for the left hand compliment, and I know a real one when I see it... I do try for depth and weight in my posts and am grateful that it is so easy for me to do. I have taken the stand over time that this blog is for me a fully professional endeavor or else why do it? I am not really that social. On the other hand I grow to love people who offer me some depth quite easily and I do care about that.

Finally, please understand I think of you as a superb writer and photographer. I care about what you write and often feel you at least are my equal and in some ways my teacher.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
