What Could Have Been

When you told me this
all my worlds took wing, and me
rising into clouds
trying to speak words
worth saying at such a time.
Since that one moment
distinct in my life
I often stand near as you
step out from your bath,
watching your womb grow
beyond our embrace of love,
beyond all we were.

I am truly amazed how that painting has taken us venturing into new paths...

    1. You are right about the path being new. Only in poetry. I have no child, yet I can sense the presence of a pregnant and gravid lover, the warmth and all that attends the warmth, as she stands fresh from the bath and welcomes my presence. I have no doubt that my senses have that memory though I have never had that lover.

    1. Actually it is not true that I have never had a pregnant lover. I have never had a late stage pregnant lover. My lover was briefly with me and pregnant by someone else. I apparently treated her so well that she named her baby boy after me even though I was not the father. His first name was a marriage of my first and last name. I am Christopher Hileman. He was named Chrisman. So she told me long after our time together.

  9. I love all the different takes on this prompt. I wrote from the perspective of a man watching a woman without her knowledge and wondering about her! I love your take on this... lovely!

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
