Bone Sitting
When the path bent round
that boulder, that's where I found
the bones of our beast
laid out on display,
stripped clean, large, belly side up,
and on the inside
edge of the long spine
some gray lichen grew, spreading
bone to bone. I felt
that change in my own
body as I stood still to see
this and the moth too
bone sitting so still
just like you told me it might
of an evening.
