It's Happened Again - A Magpie Tale

It's Happened Again

Today I've come to
in the back seat with papers
rattling and the clinks
of all the empties,
bouncing with the country road
you are taking now.

My gummy out breath
slides past my sad grimed up teeth
and the sores and lumps
I feel... last night's clothes
do not improve things, I'll say
that for damn all sure.
And worse, you are bright
and sunny, singing out as if
no cares in the world.

  2. Oh, hope that doesn't happen too regularly... very well described though. Your details tell the story so much better than a straight narrative.

    1. The driver has a story too. Have you ever lived with a drunk? I have. This is not a criticism of you, Chris. It is just that when I look at this poem I see two people, how I wrote it.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
