Witchcraft

Here's a fellow looking for truth, I suppose, or a way through, or maybe a fish for dinner.

"Three-fourths of philosophy and literature is the talk of people trying to convince themselves that they really like the cage they were tricked into entering."
- Gary Snyder

Magic, real magic, is the art of breaking free in the judicious use of the Divine brought near as sufficient power gathered through ritual and incantation. It is based on the assumption that God loves to be used. One must take care. There are consequences that follow in every endeavor on the planet and magic is no exception.

Witchcraft

The coven has met
within your heart and fallen
into trance, power
flowing out of stones
all around as if water
(struck by Moses' staff).

All those witches lurk
on darkened shelf, watch me write
these words waiting for
one main chance to pounce.

  1. And as soon as I saw the picture, I thought it looked like the Hermit in the Thoth Tarot deck. Little did I know that your following poem would be about magic...

  2. Thank you Jinsky. I thought the picture would evoke what followed and you have confirmed it.

  3. I love the way this captures that mysterious moment in writing when it feels more like channeling. Well done.

  5. James, thank you for your words, I wasn't actually thinking of writing poetry when I wrote the poem, but into magic more directly than that. Standing beside you looking at it, I see it can work your way too. Hmmm.

Jingle, thank you for your kindness.

  6. Intention is the driving force behind all 'magic'...this is my belief, and isn't it amazing, the things we manifest :)
Speaking of witches, I knew a whole bunch of them recently that turned out to be frogs.....sigh xxx

  7. Michelle, my best of friends, I have surely missed you as you wandered about your life. Certainly magic is about intention and the purest of magics is purely intention with very little ritual and incantation required.

Both magic and inanity (as in inane, and ineffective) manifest in the same directions, however, and it is not useful to be very direct. I am truly sorry to hear that you ran into "frogs". The frogs of the magical communities are far more common than those with more unitary shape. This is unfortunate but is a sign of the times, certainly.

    I hope you are unscathed.

  8. How kewl is that, my creative ectoplasmic friend...I am sure you mean me to know you had a big hand in this You Tube video. I am proud for that, yes indeed I am. I am especially happy to have it posted here.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
