On The Spot Again

Araucaria araucana (commonly called the monkeypuzzle tree, monkey tail tree, Chilean pine, or pehuén) is an evergreen tree growing to 40 m (130 ft) tall with a 2-m (7-ft) trunk diameter. The tree is native to central and southern Chile and western Argentina. Araucaria araucana is the hardiest species in the conifer genus Araucaria. Because of the great age of this species, it is sometimes described as a living fossil. Its conservation status was changed to Endangered by the IUCN in 2013 due to its declining abundance.

It is the national tree of Chile.

There was a monkeypuzzle tree on Ellsworth Street around the corner from Oregon Street. I checked the Google street view. LeConte school is the same. The two houses on Oregon Street that were broken into apartments as a consequence of World War II where we had poor as churchmice apartments are still there. I think Glenn Seaborg's family lived at 2810 Ellsworth Street. For those who don't know and may care, here is the Wiki page for Glenn. He was a major light in nuclear physics and education both. Glenn T. Seaborg

On The Spot Again

What a freaky mess
you make when you come at me
like that, just like him,
questioning my soul,
tripping me, stripping my chest
of all my pretense
and I would rather
climb that monkeypuzzle tree
than answer your eyes.

  1. Understand, good sir, that 'no comments' does not mean 'no interest". I read here fairly regularly, but most of what I want to say seems to come out pretentious, sententious, and all that stuff.
I love these photos, I admire and appreciate your point of view, and am restraiing myself from countering poem with poem, this is your space, not mine.

But I do enjoy the different point of view, the life you have lived/survived/cobbled up out of spit and sand--

And thank you for this blog.

    1. That's why, I think, that blogger is kind enough to track visits for you... in case you might otherwise think no one comes.

Thank you for your kindness, mittens. My interest in the blog ebbs and flows mostly independent of the readers who come by. I am quite satisfied by my apparent numbers. My top ten pages all run between one and slightly over ten thousand contacts. I have over three hundred thousand total page views according to blogger. According to the counter at the bottom of my blog page, the count is far more conservative, but is still over two hundred thousand. I think the difference may be how to handle multiple page views by the same visitor.

The ebb and flow of visits to my blog is mostly independent of my flagging posts. I will be seventy this year and I often have days I don't get to the computer station across the basement from my sleeping and tv viewing space. I need to be there to post my blog entries. I am just too tired or I'll many days. I am blessed that what ails me neither causes pain nor discomfort but it does take my energy.

    2. Damn this tablet and it's auto correct. I really try to oversee what it does. I see I failed near the end of my comment. I have no idea now what I meant then but if you just omit the odd words the sentence seems to read okay.

  2. lol thats funny. I disable auto correct with a ball peen hammer and sealing wax. took me weeks to find the autocorrect they have now built into Outlook, its 6 pages deep and buried inside an acorn in there...

most of my visitors are from Russia, the Ukraine, and India. I stopped being impressed when I realized they were webcrawlers which is as creepy as it sounds, to me...
we are of an age. I can understand the slowing process, and it annoys me deeply. There are days when i find myself shuffling across the grocery aisles and think 'stop that". Or look down and realize I am ourt in public wearing one good shoe and one garden shoe. =( if anyone asked I'd say, 'bad toe" and let it go at that.

what counts at this stage is that the head still works, (most of the time) and the heart still beats to the appropriate drummer at the appropriate time. Im just glad youre still able to get to the computer now and then. Truly.

    1. I do like Visitor Map. It is a newer addition than the page hit counter at the bottom. I have no idea who most of you are. I assume "web crawlers" are like the local guys in the drug store who take your books down off the rack and thumb through. But remember that the hit count comes as a total from 2011 or so. What is obvious is that the West Coast states are the main sources, and should be I guess since I am in Oregon City, in the far south of the Portland Metro.

The chicken crossed the road. That's poultry in motion.
