What hangs from your neck,
she asked, what is that, old man?
I, blushing silent
bowed my head and shrugged.
So she turned from me again,
said this is the last
chance you have, old man.
She floated off while the sun
turned to a setting
hue and the dog went
in and the cat left as well,
and I sat there, stunned
thinking how I should
have said and how I could have
had the last damn words.

ReplyDeletethe imagery in this is spot on, chris and the ending, oh yes. The last damn words most of us never get a chance to say.
