Marble is relatively workable, part of why marble is the statue medium of choice for this sort of work. Imagine breathing the marble dust day after day and also getting it in one's eyes. That is normal punishment for a sculptor in marble.

ReplyDeleteit always amazes me that anything so relatively inflexible seeming as marble can be made, in the right hands, to appear as pliable and flexible as flesh. Good art--of whatever sort--transcends the medium, doesnt it.
