Hard Times
It's all dreams again.
You said marijuana smoke
is all I can have
clumsy as I am.
I look at you in the glass,
see you vanish from
the prone position
you take low in the drab sky,
leaf blown and cut down.
Times are axe blade hard.
Your name is a pepper rub
in my cracked open
life, shattering land
that once held our trust planted
in those yard long rows.
Listen: we must now
for once and all just settle
this damn argument.

I love the conversational, yet dreamy style of your words. Great take on both prompts (and thank you for not making me visit more than one blog for two prompts!)! *smile*
ReplyDeleteUsing the wordle as well as the image forces me to write to a situation that is not mine with words I would not choose. That is very good practice.
DeleteOh, hang on... Poultry in motion? Hahahaha... Good one!
ReplyDeleteAwww, shucks.
DeleteThe motion of this.. the beginning, and trying to settle an argument in marijuana smoke sound like a difficult thing...
ReplyDeleteIt is possible I suppose to go either way. The "marijuana dreams" comes from accusations from one friend to another who had married each other in hopes that were ultimately dashed. He had quit using by that time but had a head full of marijuana dreams left over as far she was concerned. I doubt she was wrong, but he has with some difficulty still made the rest of his life work out.
DeleteTimes are surely axe blade hard (great line).. All those images scrape and grate uncomfortable as the situation..perfect illustration of how hard can feel
ReplyDelete*blush* I value your impressions.
DeleteThe argument will be settled no doubt with one crushed and the other sneering.
ReplyDelete"axe blade hard" Love that. Arguments that continue ad infinitum. Oh my ex comes to mind. Perish the thought. He's rubbed in enough pepper...
ReplyDeleteThese turns of phrase come in such a disheveled way for me that I have to say they are not really mine. I had axe and hard in place, and the word in the middle stumbled from side to side complaining, "I don't want to be here!!" I think six different words or something paraded through and refused service. Even "blade" was surly. When it laid down to take a nap, I said, "I'm done with you." and that was that.
Delete"Times are axe blade hard"...this is very true...
ReplyDeleteI know, huh? Almost everyone over fifty is completely familiar with the experience of axe blade hard times. Just the details of the story are different. The times are the same.
DeletePepper rub indeed...ouch...
ReplyDeleteNice job combining the two prompts..
