At Least I'm Asking You
It took just one look
to send me over the edge.
Now I don't know to
shuffle or somehow
stack the damn deck and make sure
you stick here with me.
It's integrity
that's got me flying into
windows and leaving
feather prints behind.
So I ask you now, dearest.
May I eat your fruit?
Maybe the small one.

nice verse
ReplyDeleteGo ahead... eat the fruit! Great poem!
ReplyDeleteenjoyable poem.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed
ReplyDeleteWhat a gentleman you are, to pose such a question! LOL
ReplyDeleteUm...see the answer below about being a gentleman.
Deletelove the feather prints....great piece..x
ReplyDeleteWhen birds fly into windows full on they leave oily marks of feathers behind. Birds preen the feathers using a gland. In ducks this is especially heavy because it is waterproofing, but in all birds the same because soggy feathers won't work and rain is on all of them.
DeleteI am sure she will give you the fruit,
ReplyDeleteLoved your poem and as Jinksy says, You are a gentleman. Hope the lady appreciated it.

Clouds and Silvery Linings
Not me. Most poems I write from a character. They are fictions. I'm seriously lacking the skill and grace of a gentleman. I make up for it with shyness and fear.
DeleteNo way, she is not sharing even a bite. You can see it in her eyes! Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteI hate to steal but if I must...
DeleteHehehe! One must!
Deletestack the damm deck and stick with me- nice
ReplyDeleteKind of you to say so. Thank you.
DeleteI love this. Forgetting how to shuffle, stacking the deck, and yet brave enough to ask for a bite of her fruit. She seems aloof to me though. Nice writing.
ReplyDeleteYes and that aloofness inspired my whole take actually. I imagined the irritation it might cause and even though my desire was still strong.
DeleteAlways ask - no matter how small the fruit!
ReplyDeleteWhy?
Deleteleaving feather prints behind..I really like that line..
ReplyDeleteMethinks she was besotted by you? I like your style. Well done.
