At Least I'm Asking You

It took just one look
to send me over the edge.

Now I don't know to
shuffle or somehow
stack the damn deck and make sure
you stick here with me.

It's integrity
that's got me flying into
windows and leaving
feather prints behind.
So I ask you now, dearest.
May I eat your fruit?

Maybe the small one.

    1. When birds fly into windows full on they leave oily marks of feathers behind. Birds preen the feathers using a gland. In ducks this is especially heavy because it is waterproofing, but in all birds the same because soggy feathers won't work and rain is on all of them.

Loved your poem and as Jinksy says, You are a gentleman. Hope the lady appreciated it.

    1. Not me. Most poems I write from a character. They are fictions. I'm seriously lacking the skill and grace of a gentleman. I make up for it with shyness and fear.

  5. No way, she is not sharing even a bite. You can see it in her eyes! Ha! Ha!

  7. I love this. Forgetting how to shuffle, stacking the deck, and yet brave enough to ask for a bite of her fruit. She seems aloof to me though. Nice writing.

    1. Yes and that aloofness inspired my whole take actually. I imagined the irritation it might cause and even though my desire was still strong.
